Xwesam T'siya

The Elphinstone Wizard stands on shíshálh Nation territory, currently managed by BC Timber Sales. This p'élán-ay / Douglas fir is 195cm in diameter and broken at 42m in height. It was LiDAR scanned on June 6, 2022 by Emergent Layer DAO. A coring was taken on September 29, 2022 by Snowline Ecological Research for Elphinstone Logging Focus (ELF). The sample indicates a date of establishment of 1540 CE. ELF has been working for many years to protect and recruit old growth to be included in the Mt. Elphinstone Provincial Park Proposed Expansion Area, allowing for permanent protection of this ancient forest.
